
Producer, director, cinematographer Prem Sagar shot into the limelight as a student of Film & Television Institute of India (FTII - Pune) by winning the Gold Medal for best academic student and also the Silver Medal for best photographed film.
As director of photography, his very first motion picture ‘Lalkar’ won for him numerous awards all over India. Ever since, he has bagged over 15 awards for photography of ‘Jalte Badan’, ‘Hamrahi’, ‘Charas’, ‘Ram Bharose’ etc.
He made his debut as producer and director with ‘Hum Tere Aashiq Hain’ inspired by George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Pygmalion’ starring the ever-popular star pair Hema Malini and Jeetendra.
With the boom of television in India, Prem Sagar stepped into the production of TV programmes. His serial ‘King Vikram and the Ghost’ (Vikram Aur Betaal) created history waves with television audience in India winning 5 awards including Uptron Award for Great Television Performance and All India Filmgoers Award for Most Outstanding Television Serial.
Prem Sagar has also received the honour of being an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (ARPS) as well as the honour of Artiste Federation Internationale de l’Arts Photographique – Paris (AFIAP).
He has received International Recognition winning the UNESCO Award in Tokyo instituted by Asian Cultural Centre Silver Medal at Oregon State Fair USA and two Bronze Medals at Santiago Chile.
During 1986-87, Prem Sagar was appointed on Western Region Selection Panel of Panorama of 10th International Film Festival of India.
For many years he has also been a Member of Selection Board of Union Public Service Commission of India (UPSC) and Lecturer, Examiner and Member of the selection panel for the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII).
In 1999, Prem Sagar was a Jury Member for Videocon Screen Awards (Television) attended by Governor for the Oscar Award / Academy of Motion Picture Art & Science Mr. Richard Edlund and on the Board of Patrons for Lux-Zee Cine Awards and also on the Panel for judging the Best Effect (Visuals) for ZEE Cine Awards.
He was the technical advisor and also the Marketing Director for ‘Ramayan’ the blockbuster in the history of Indian T.V. He was the Co-Producer and Marketing Director of the T.V. serial Krishna.
Prem presently handles the marketing and business development for the group. He was the director of Jai Maa Durga and presently directing Mahima Shani Dev ki (NDTV imagine) and Kahaniya Vikram aur Betaal ki (Colors).
